Evaluation of the thermal conductivity of the near surface

Here you will find a tool to plan shallow wells for geothermal energy based on existing well data. You can find knowledge about the thermal conductivity of the sediment layers that is important when you plan and design shallow geothermal energy plants as well as near-surface geological heat storage.

The thermal conductivity depends to a high degree on the compostion the geological formations and may therefore vary considerably from location to location. This application makes it possible to get an evaluation of thermal conducitivity and sediment composition at a given user-selected location based on sample descriptions in GEUS’ well database Jupiter.

You will also find an interface for an energy calculation program developed by the Danish Technological Institute, so that the geological data can be included in the design of new shallow geothermal energy plants.
